Why do you like Tim Burton so much when there are many other better directors out there?

Hm. Well, first off there are only a few directors out there better than Burton. Not several like you mention. The few I speak of are Christopher Nolan, David Fincher, and Danny Boyle (who are also my favorite directors). Burton is on the same playing field as many other greats, including Speilberg, Scorcese, Scott, etc. Burton has had many successes with his career, and a few failings like all good directors. The reason why I like him so much is because his style, his films, his angle speaks to me on a personal level more than any other director out there. I also admire the man because he managed to not conform with his visual style despite what others have/can say about him. He truly is a filmmaker for himself rather than the studio system and that is something that not many filmmakers can say these days.

I also admire him for being the filmmaker that I wish I was. His visual style itself is far beyond me and that is something I can never achieve. I learned a few years ago (especially with Elysium) that filmmakers should find their own style and not try to emulate anyone else’s work. There is no one else out there like Burton and his style cannot, and should not be copied because you’ll fail miserably.

Argue all you want, but Tim Burton has a vision that no one else in this world has- and I feel greatly honored to be able to understand what he’s saying. Other fans of his just like the pretty pictures and don’t comprehend the meaning. I have been listening to Tim Burton’s messages since 1989 and haven’t looked back. Sure he has some flops (Planet of the Apes, Alice in Wonderland), but he has a library of film successes that makes most filmmakers in the industry jealous.

I am in awe of his work, his passion, and his vision, no matter how crappy or terrible it is. I am not a bandwagon fan. Bandwagon fans irritate the hell out of me. Especially the ones who think The Nightmare before Christmas is a Tim Burton film. I have been a fan of his for 21+ years and that will never change. I certainly don’t agree with some his film choices (especially his upcoming films) and I can criticize that. I see his faults as well as his many greats.
